1. Who We Are
Voxt is a civic engagement platform operated in the United Kingdom. We provide a space for citizens to debate, vote, and engage with political and social issues. This privacy policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your personal data.
2. Data We Collect
When you register and use Voxt, we may collect:
- Account information: email address, display name, password (stored securely as a hash).
- Location data: nation, region, local area, and constituency (provided voluntarily).
- Political opinion data: your votes, poll responses, debate arguments, and other contributions that may reveal your political opinions.
- Usage data: IP address, browser type, pages visited, and timestamps for security and analytics.
3. Special Category Data — Political Opinions
Under the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR), data revealing political opinions is classified as special category data and receives additional protection.
We process this data on the basis of your explicit consent, which you provide when creating an account and agreeing to our terms. You have the right to withdraw consent at any time by deleting your account, though this will not affect the lawfulness of processing carried out before withdrawal.
Votes and poll responses are recorded to prevent duplicate submissions but are not publicly linked to your identity. Debate arguments are attributed to your display name.
4. How We Use Your Data
- To provide and operate the Voxt platform, including debates, votes, and polls.
- To display relevant issues based on your geographic information.
- To maintain site security, prevent abuse, and enforce community standards.
- To generate anonymised, aggregated statistics on civic engagement.
5. Data Sharing
We do not sell your personal data. We may share data with:
- Service providers who help us operate the platform (hosting, email), under data processing agreements.
- Law enforcement or regulatory bodies where required by law.
6. Data Retention
We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, personal data is removed within 30 days. Anonymised contributions (e.g. vote tallies) may be retained for statistical purposes.
7. Your Rights Under GDPR
You have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you.
- Rectify inaccurate personal data.
- Erase your personal data (right to be forgotten).
- Restrict or object to processing.
- Data portability — receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format.
- Withdraw consent at any time.
- Lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).
8. Security
We use industry-standard security measures including encrypted connections (HTTPS), hashed passwords, CSRF protection, and regular security reviews to protect your data.
9. Cookies
Voxt uses essential session cookies to keep you logged in. We do not use advertising or third-party tracking cookies.
